Alliance Boots was created as Europe's leading pharmacy-led health and beauty group through the merger of Alliance UniChem and Boots Group PLC in July 2006.

Through charitable giving, support for local community activity, fundraising & volunteering, community health promotion and support for education we aim to make a real contribution to the communities of which we are a part.

Education

We believe that you're never too young to start learning about healthy living. That's why we provide information to help inspire young people and resources that help teachers to deliver the school curriculum.

Our first educational website, Boots Learning Store was launched in 2002 and provides health and science information for children and young people aged 4 to 16.   The site is linked to the key stages of the national curriculum and includes content on personal hygiene, sun safety, skin, eyesight, head lice, reproduction, puberty, periods, smoking, contraception, STI's, alcohol and drugs. It also provides teachers notes, including lesson plans and ideas for classroom activity.  

The Lifestyle Lounge section of bootslearningstore.com is for teenagers aged 16+. It tackles popular teenage lifestyle issues such as hair, skin, contraception, travel, fitness and eating disorders in a straightforward but humorous way. It has become a source of information and advice on topics that aren't always easy to speak to an adult about.

Change One Thing Schools is a brand new online curriculum linked resource for PSHE, PSE, Home Economics & Science teachers, aimed at 11-14 year old students. It combines information about healthy lifestyles with skills development to put knowledge into practice, to help students make positive changes to their lifestyles. Change One Thing Schools has been developed in partnership with education consultants, our own experts and teachers to  bring health to life in a stimulating and inspiring way.  

Work experience

Another important part of our support for education is giving young people experience of the world of work. We estimate that around 5,000 students each year spend time working with us, learning about the skills required by employers.
